The community of Applewood (also known as Rockwood) is one of the oldest communities in Mississauga. It was initially settled by Irish immigrants. As with most of Mississauga, sports are an integral part of the community with the Glenforest Baseball Team, the Dixie Soccer Team and the Applewood Hockey Team catering to the children in the community.

This area is approximately a 20 minute drive to Downtown Toronto with access to Highways 401, 407, 427 and the QEW.  The GO Train and the Pearson International Airport are within 10 minutes of this community.

Applewood has a variety of detached bungalows, backsplits, sidesplits, condominium townhouses, 1 1/2 and 2 storey homes.  There are two Senior Citizen Homes within the community and a few Condominium buildings.

Applewood's residents are proud of the newly renovated Public Library and the Maja Prentice Theatre located at the corner of Burnhamthorpe and Dixie Road.
